(Newark-WABC, Sept. 15, 2oo6) - A once-powerful New Jersey lawmaker was in court Friday to face corruption charges.

Former State Senator John Lynch pleaded guilty to tax evasion.

Eyewitness News reporter Lisa Colagrossi is live in Newark with the story.

Ex-Senator John Lynch was once one of the most powerful Democrats in the Garden State. He walked into Newark federal court Friday and entered a guilty plea to charges of tax evasion and corruption regarding questionable deals.

Prosecutors believe Lynch used his influence to make money. He faces up to five years in prison and up to $250,000 fine.

Man, I hate dirty politicians.

Lynch's developer / business partner has also pleaded guilty.

Westlake admits tax evasion

Newark - Major developer Jack Westlake, a former business partner with Democratic Party boss John A. Lynch Jr., pleaded guilty today to a tax evasion charge.
